Sanath Jayasuriya and Jehan Mubarak produced star performances as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 39 runs in the third and final one-day international to wrap up the series 3-0 at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo yesterday.

Mubarak made a top score of 72 from 83 balls with five fours before Jayasuriya plucked four wickets to seal the win as Sri Lanka defended a total of 196 in a match that was reduced to 40 overs a side due to rain.

Bangladesh appeared to be cruising at one stage with the total at 129 for 5 in 30 overs but with the introduction of Jayasuriya Sri Lanka wrapped up the game in no time dismissing the tourists for 157 in 37.1 overs.

Jayasuriya grabbed his match-winning four wickets in just three overs while missing out on a hat-trick and was declared man of the series while Mubarak was adjudged man of the match.

Interestingly Jayasuriya’s first wicket was top scorer Tamin Iqbal who was caught at deep mid-wicket for 54 which came in 73 balls with the help of three fours and one six.

Sri Lanka put into bat lost three quick wickets including Jayasuriya to end up at 44 for 3 in the 13th over but Mubarak stabilised the proceedings and was fortunate to survive with his score on 16 when long-on Abdur Razak failed to get under a possible catch.
