Over 800 schools to contest athletic meet

Schools in the North-East Province are among 832 schools that are taking part in the 12th National Schools Athletic Meet to be held at the Sugathadasa Stadium on September 28, 29, 30 and October 1.

The sports festival is conducted by the Ministry of Education and will see 1955 boys and 1838 girls taking part in the athletic finals that is held in the age groups of under 15, 18, 19 and 21.

There will be 1955 boys and 1838 girls competing in the athletic events over the four days.

A half marathon race will be conducted on October 1 at 7 a.m.

There will be 262 boys and 139 girls taking part in this race that will start at the Sugathadasa Stadium and go up to Welisara and return to the Stadium for the finish.

There will also be very colourful opening and closing ceremonies involving over 7,000 students participating from various schools.
