Matale gold in U-19 s-final

HOCKEY: Defending champions Matale Gold qualified to play in the semi-final stage of the Inter District Schools under 19 Hockey championship organised by the Schools Hockey Association of Sri Lanka in association with Colombo Schools Hockey Committee and conducted at the Astro turf, Reid Avenue and Royal College grounds, yesterday.

Before qualifying for the semi-finals Matale Gold triumphed against Matara Hockey Club six goals to nil comprehensively in the quarter final. The other three teams also in the semi-finals are Kandy Blue, Colombo Red and Chilaw. Kandy Blue had a five goals to nil victory against Badulla. Chilaw Hockey Club overcame Colombo Blue two goals to nil while Colombo Red trounced Matale Maroons 5 goals to nil to qualify for the next rounds.

The Girl's quarter-final between Matale Hockey Club and Kandy White ended in a tame draw as both teams were unable to score goals and both teams qualified for the girl's semi-final. In the other quarter final Colombo Red beat Kandy Blue three goals to nil to enter the semi finals.

In the games played earlier Colombo Red had a convincing win over Badulla when they scored 11 goals to nil. Colombo Blue overcame Matara Hockey Club four goals to nil. Matale Maroon defeated Badulla 3 goals to nil.

Matale Gold beat Gampaha Hockey Club five goals to nil. Chilaw Hockey Club overcame Matara HC 6 goals to nil while Colombo Blue beat Gampaha HC 9 goals to nil.

The semi-finals and final will be played today.

Boys semi-finals will be played between Matale Gold and Kandy Blue while Colombo Red will meet Chilaw Hockey club in the semi-final match. In the girls semi-finals Kandy White meets their neighbours Kandy Blue while the other semi-final match will be played between Colombo red and Matale Hockey club.
