Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena says preparations are being made to hold elections in five provinces after the 3rd reading vote of the budget 2009. He said the government has no problem in gaining victory at provincial council elections. Speaking at a press conference in Colombo yesterday the minister noted that the government received a majority of 42 votes in the second reading vote of the new budget.

Speaking further the Minister noted opening a land route to Jaffna from Colombo after more than a decade is a victory gained by all citizens. The government spends huge amount of money for the national security. However, the government has also carried out many programmes for the welfare of the people. The Minister points out this can be clearly seen during the passed three years.
