Raja FM is one of the channels of AEP radio and television network has been banned by the government after the station continued to broadcast "obscene" programmes despite information ministry warnings, Director of the Information Department Anusha Pelpita said Thursday.

The radio station, Raja-FM, had also been accused of broadcasting programmes which were harmful to school children drawing protests from religious leaders, intellectuals and school teachers.

This prompted the government to impose a ban on the station with immediate effect, Pelpita said.
